Purely Decadent ice cream

I discovered this ice cream while I was on vacation this week. Everyone was having ice cream and I just gave in and decided to have some. This has a ton of sugar in it so I don’t recommend having this all the time. When you want to splurge though…dig in. It is so good I ate the whole thing in one sitting. I love this flavor, peanut butter zig zag. It reminds me of the peanut butter cup sundae I used to eat all the time from Friendly’s.It’s by Purely Decadent.

My love for green smoothies

I have a deep love for green smoothies. Green smoothies are a regular part of my everyday life. They are like my comfort, my security blanket. I love filling my mason jar every morning with delicious green smoothie recipes. I have discovered amazing benefits from drinking green smoothies every day. My skin is clearer, my eyes are brighter, my metabolism has changed,my weight is balanced,  elimination is more regular promoting detox, I’m not starving all the time because I get my nutrients delivered directly to my blood stream. I don’t have to take so many vitamins, my kitchen was starting to look like a GNC. I couldn’t even remember what I was taking and why. I just felt deficient. It’s best to get all our nutrients from food. The green smoothie takes care of everything. The only thing I take now is Omega Fatty Acids, very important, and I add various super foods to my smoothies. I also add protein powder, I like Sun-Warrior brand and Vega. These grains are sprouted and have more nutrients. I also have a few local eggs or a bowl of amaranth grain about a half hour after my smoothie. I just have the type of metabolism that needs constant protein. I encourage you to start your day with a green smoothie.

Summer Squash coriander soup with sour cream

I made this refreshing and delicious soup over the weekend and wanted to share it. It’s so easy, healthy,and in season. I used 2 gigantic squash from a friends garden. One green and one yellow squash. I paired this with a grass-fed and local flat iron steak (I am eating meat again).I decided to do this because my body was really suffering. I still avoid dairy and gluten and sugar (mostly) 🙂 I still try to keep my diet 50% raw, more in the summer months. I find adding back in the grass-fed meats, and some fish (only wild), and local eggs, I feel stronger. If you are eating vegan and are feeling great, I encourage you to to go with it. It’s so important for us to listen to our bodies needs and to be honest. I love the idea of being vegan, but my body doesn’t. I need the animal protein after all. But every body is different. I still believe animals deserve better, so I always buy my meat from the local farmers market. I talk to the farmers  who raise the cattle. I really like Wolf Creek farms.I still hate supporting murder, but I feel tired and useless when I don’t eat meat. I like keeping my meats rare too, I feel I get more of the nutrients this way. Crispy Lentil Rotini Recipe

I found this delicious recipe from Self magazine. I’ve made it three times now! It’s so good and satisfying. I made the recipe using quinoa instead of the rotini, because I didn’t have any rotini on hand.I love truffle oil and the buttery garlic flavor of this dish. It was fantastic with the quinoa too. Quinoa ( pronounced keen-wah) is an amazing superfood, not actually a grain but a seed related to the spinach family. It’s health benefits are amazing. It is a gluten-free grain, packed with protein,fiber magnesium and antioxidants. Here it is!

Creamy Macadamia milk

I have just discovered a new love, macadamia nut milk. It’s giving my all time favorite almond milk some competition. According to Sarma Melngailis, macadamia nuts are very high in selenium and zinc, both important minerals. Macadamias are the richest source of the monounsaturated fat oleic acid, otherwise known as omega 9, beneficial for lowering cholesterol and protecting against heart disease. These fats help the body metabolize fats more efficiently and are thought to promote weight loss. I made macadamia milk last night and enjoyed it straight up, it can also be mixed with strawberries for summer treat.

Healing with Reiki

In the last 3 years I’ve been on a healing journey that only seems to get better and evolve deeper. I remember waking up 3 years ago and thinking something has to change, something has to change or I’m going to die. I felt it deep down inside. It was a spiritual sickness that can’t be described. A darkness, a shadow, a feeling that something was not quite right and I knew I couldn’t go on living that way. I also knew I could not depend on others for my happiness anymore. It had to start with me.My journey to well-being had begun that day and I’ll never forget it. My connection to a power greater than myself opened up to me. There have been many forms of healing I have tried. Clearing away the fears that block me, getting free of resentment, and practicing daily meditation was my solid foundation. Building upon my solid foundation came energy healing as well as healthful eating. My training has been in the Reiki tradition although I have found many forms of energy healing very beneficial to my spiritual growth.
